What is a donation event? Guests register and enter any amount they wish to give (minimum 1 ETB). There are no fixed ticket tiers. The flow uses the same compliance and payment rules as paid events.
When to use donation mode
- Charity galas and fundraisers
- Community drives with suggested giving
- Religious or cultural collections with event attendance
- Any event where price should not be fixed upfront
Prerequisites
Same as paid events:
- Registered as an organizer (menu → Organizer Dashboard → Organizer Registration if you are not registered yet)
- 10-digit TIN + compliance documents
- Accept paid-event terms (commission & WHT apply to donations received)
Step-by-step
1 Start event wizard
Organizer Dashboard → Create New Event → organization choice → Event Registration.
2 Choose attendance mode
- In person — typical for galas and gatherings
- Hybrid / online — donation can apply to stream access; configure Kelal Live as needed
3 Select Donation registration style
Under How guests register, choose Donation:
- Guests choose how much to give at checkout
- Minimum donation: 1 ETB
- Event is stored as
is_donation_event in the system
If you select Donation while pricing is still Free, the app prompts you to switch to paid/compliance flow — same as choosing Paid pricing.
4 Complete compliance popup
Enter TIN, upload documents, accept terms (identical to paid ticket flow).
5 Event details
- Event title — required
- Event description — required; full details about the event
- Category, dates, capacity, banner
- Public — open fundraising page
- Private — invite-only donation link
Fixed General/VIP/Early Bird price fields are not used in donation mode.
6 Venue registration
Public or private venue — same as other event types. See venue section in the overview.
Guest experience
- Guest opens event page (public or private link)
- Taps Donate
- Enters amount on the ETB keypad (minimum 1)
- Completes payment through Kelal Gateway
- Receives confirmation / ticket record depending on event setup
On the event page, pricing shows as Donation — You choose how much to give.
Organizer reporting
Donation revenue appears in the Event Dashboard like ticket revenue:
- Total tickets / registrations count
- Revenue breakdown (available after End Event)
- 3% commission and 3% WHT calculated on amounts received
- PDF event report includes financial summary

- State the cause and suggested amounts in the description
- Use a professional organization profile for credibility
- Share the event link on social media from the dashboard
- Send notifications to attendees from Event Dashboard before and after the event
